When I’m driving I listen exclusively to books and seminars on tape or CD. To me it seems like the only valuable use of otherwise wasted time. But this afternoon my CD stash ran low, and I had nothing to listen to. So I turned on AM radio – the next best thing. Instantly, I heard a commercial for Big League Haircuts. And the commercial was an endorsement from 2 of the on air personalities…which means it cost even more than a regular commercial. Big League only has 4 locations – one of which happens to be in my little [...]
Over the weekend I was watching a new show on the Food Network, Chefography. As its name suggests, its the biography of a chef. I watched the episode about Emeril (BAM!) and Paula Dean. While watching both episodes, something struck me…something so clear, so pure, so true. Here are the stories of two very successful entrepreneurs. They’re both authors, restauranteurs, and TV personalities. They both have found success. And in both stories, this striking chord resonated. Paula Dean began catering out of her own house. Then she moved into the kitchen of a Best Western motel. After a few years, she [...]
For the last week I’ve been listening to a 27 hour-long marketing seminar that was recorded back in 2000 and it is very interesting how the little things just pop out at you when you spend so much time immersed in a topic. Now I don’t expect all of you to spend your time immersed in marketing the way Travis and I do on a daily basis, day-after-day. BUT I do expect you to take the advice we give you because we’re boiling it down for you and hopefully making you think about things you wouldn’t have thought about otherwise, [...]
I have to tell you this amazing story. So, I made a mistake with some credit card transactions I was doing, and I had to call the credit card company to remedy the problem. If you use credit cards (and I’m sure most of you do), you know that calling a credit card company is a freakin’ nightmare. The ridiculous phone maze to keep callers from actually talking to a live person, the prompts that take you no where, the Fort Knox like security (which is probably a good thing but after all the other stuff still makes you mad). [...]
You can learn a lot by going out and getting some ice cream on the weekend. Well, at least I did recently when I took my wife (baby cravings) to the Cold Stone Creamery. You may or may not have been in one of these sweet havens but the concept is cool (literally). It goes like this. Cold Stone has a very cold stone that they mix the ice cream you choose with mixin’ s you choose – like candy bars, apple pie, M&M’s, Coconut, fresh fruits, cookie dough and so many others I can’t list them. Their main competition is The Marble Slab. [...]
